Games That Can RUIN a Relationship

angry_couple

In a world with an increasing number of multiplayer titles more and more gamers are playing together whether it be in cooperative play or side by side in ranked competitive matches.
However, you might want to be careful if playing with a sibling, friend or spouse, as some games can absolutely ruin a relationship (or at least cause a LOT of fighting).
Without further hesitation, here are some of the games I truly suggest thinking twice about when playing them with a person you want to continue your relationship with.

Rainbow Six Vegas 2

Some games can be difficult and others can be thought provoking…this title blends difficulty and intelligent gameplay like no other title before it.
The problem is that the odds are either you or your partner won’t be as able minded as the other and thus lead to a lot of aggravating deaths (especially if you try realistic) followed by conflict. You can only endure so many attacks from the rear due to a partners lack of being alert or sit back while you have to wait for your partners respawn for the 10th time in one chapter before you want to lose your mind.

Gears of War

For those who remember the original Gears, you depend on your ally immensely because of one simple fact: the game chooses to separate you frequently and once you are just downed (not killed) the game is over as an A.I. partner can not revive you. This alone can lead to “what the hell are you doing on your end” being said ad nausea.
Add in some gut wrenching infuriating moments (UV turret anyone) that require precise teamwork and focus and now you have the beginning…of the end of your peace in the relationship.

Dead or Alive 4

If you thought playing a single player game was a good idea, try and make sure you re-evaluate what the single player game is. This (albeit a great fighter) game is one of the most soul crushing heart shattering miraculously difficult games in existence. The boss fight with alpha-152 (believe that was her number – final boss – ) can put you into either a rage fit or a depressive bout, depending on how you handle your emotions.
If you have anyone near you and they say ONE thing that can be taken as wrong, you will, without doubt, get into a fight and let all of that pain out of your system…on your buddy/spouse/sibling.

Resident Evil 5

For some reason Capcom saw fit to make you unable to move when shooting while having to manage items in an awkward template in real time. This alone will frustrate you.
Now add in the fact you and your partner need to watch multiple points of entry, fend off waves of agile zombies while moving like a tank yourself, and ration off ammo and health that comes in a VERY low supply and this mix of needing supplies with irritating situations leave a lot of room open for some personal chaos.

Sacred 2

This is a dungeon crawler hack and slash experience with so many technical issues you could vomit. Lousy hit detection, glitched out mounts, random spawn deaths, getting stuck on terrain, and so on will already have you seeing red.
When playing co-op, make sure you don’t add fuel to the fire and check your new gear/dropped items EVERY TIME YOU GET ONE. Honestly, I think ALL of us have played with a person (online or local) that goes “Oh, whats this” and stops the game or breaks the party progress since they need to see what new and shiny item they have. This, over time, will make you want to find a new partner…to play with.

Well I hope you enjoyed these samples of games that can seriously put a dent in your relationship. So before you fire up that game, try to think if…
- You plan to keep this person around
- How they play a certain genre of games
- If you have any comfort food, a punching bag, or a stun gun handy just in case

  1. I would like to add Tekken 3 to that list please :) My husband and I played it and totally threw the controller at him (by accident) after him beating me on it. I told him I was one of the best players in Tekken and have been unbeatable back in Jersey. He challenged me, I accepted, we played, I lost, he got a bruise on his head…. BY ACCIDENT!

BUT… him and I met on SOCOM 1 (PS2) and have been playing that game since. So not all games lead to marital/relationship split lol.

  2. Left 4 dead in a great game to just kill a relationship your either your yell for help and getting mad or you die going to help them
